Yeah, it's ISP throttling. I've been having problems for a few weeks now. Usually mine stick on "downloading metadata" or "finding peers" in uTorrent, and just hang there indefinitely.

I tried searching online for a solution, but it was just a clusterfuck of irrelevant info and inapplicable advice.

I found a solution finally on my own. I have a 3G internet USB stick I keep for backup. Of course it's got a bandwidth limit so it's not really good for downloading a lot of data. But what I found was that once I got the torrent downloading on the 3G, I could switch back over to ADSL and it would keep downloading, no problems.

If you have a 3/4G card for your cellphone, you would need to get a USB modem to put it in. Then your PC can connect to the internet with it.

Get the download started on the 3G connection, then switch the ADSL back on and disconnect the 3G. If it's the same as my situation, the torrent will continue downloading.

Otherwise, you can try to find a solution online. I frigged around for hours and hours playing with the ports and settings according to advice I found online, but none of it did squat.

Ask on TBJ. That's probably your best bet. Others must be having the same issue, and the solutions to throttling problems people are having in other countries don't seem to work here.

So maybe someone on there has found a software solution that doesn't require a second internet connection like mine.

it's ok. i'll just wait it out.

i've had this problem before. it just seems to go away eventually.

i don't think it's ever lasted more than a week or so.

i have quite a bit of stuff i never had time to watch anyway on my computer.

I've been having the problem for about a month now.

ISPs are figuring out more and more ways to throttle P2P downloads, conserving bandwidth as a cost savings measure.

Which I have to say, pisses me off when I'm paying for their premium service.

Now in the US you have to be careful downloading torrents.  Did you read Monkey King's post on TBJ?  He downloaded some torrents in the States and got two warning emails from the FBI telling him to cease or face prosecution.

There are some paid services available though, not terribly expensive, that will download your torrent to a third party foriegn server, then let you http download it directly, all at super high speeds.  I might have to go through something like that when I get back.  It's worth it, and it's still a lot cheaper than Cable TV and all that jazz.  Torrents are great and I hope they never go away.  I love having the ability to watch whatever the F I want whenever I feel like watching it.  For free.

I won't pay for content on the internet, never!  If they ever manage to get everything securely locked away behind a pay-wall, I'll just start reading books again. study

really? so MK moved back and he's still posting on TBJ?

that must be cool being contacted by the FBI!

i sent a nasty email to someone once and he threatened to call the FBI.

the torrents are a blessing and a curse.

you can get anything you want at the click of a button.

but then you end up watching so much crap that you would never end up watching back home.

for every good film, there's like 20 shit ones.

and because torrents are so accessible, you end up watching everything.

Yeah speaking of that, why did you ever even utter the title "Venus in Fur" before me?

I went and downloaded that turd after that, you know!

The first scene was so fkn annoying to watch, the way they jsut blabbed on and on before getting to anything.

And it just kept going... until I finally skipped ahead aways to see when the next scene started, and there they still were on the same set in that same theater still doing that same fucking scene.  Then I went forward even more, all the way towards the end of the movie, and still no change.

I guess the whole thing is just one big long boring scene, all in French making me read subtitles.  Total fkn shit that movie.  Frankly, I don't know how you managed to get through it.  That file is now sitting 85% unwatched where it belongs, in my recycle bin.

    It's a play.

    It's based on a play.

    It's about S&M, man.

    But the pscyhological aspect.

    Watch the ending at least.

    It was haunting.

    To me, anyway.

Maybe it was too deep for you?

    Ha ha ha.

Dumb and Dumber To is coming out soon. Hooray! That should be right up your alley.
