    Full Time Student

Post  Psioncy on Thu Sep 10, 2015 1:35 am

    cheers

You would not fucking believe the number of hoops I had to jump through to get this done.

My classes start in a week.  study

I'm straight with my previous colleges as far as transcripts go... well nearly.

Because I owed one school $1200 the other would not release my transcripts either.

I negotiated it down to $500, cuz as it turns out... you can do that.

Not only that, I'm nearly straightened out with the IRS, despite 14 years of not filing.

My federal student aid is still held up because my outstanding loans.  I'm still trying to sort that shit.

The financial people at the school referred me to the government edu website, which had my debts listed.

BUT, in order to deal with them, it turned out I had to contact another gov agency, not the agency I was referred to.

Ok, took me a fkn week to figure that out, but ok.  I finally got through to those assholes on voicemail, turns out there's ANOTHER agency I have to contact, not them.

We're three levels deep now, and guess what?  THAT agency tells me they can't handle it either cuz it's been subbed out to a collection agency.

(Nobody's giving me contact info on each link down the bullshit chain either.  I have to google search this stuff)

That agency doesn't respond to phone or email msgs! Mad   So that's where I'm at with that.  Rolling Eyes

BUT I am enrolled and registered for my classes.  Phew!

I can't wait to start.  bounce

Gotta keep it PC though.  If I start writing about Jewology or Asian Expat Debauchery, it's liable to cause problems.

This is *school*, not Satan's Kingdom.  And I would do well to continually remind myself of that.

This is a well acclaimed writing-intensive English program I'm in, designed to develop one's craft to its fullest potential.

Or to put it another way...

Me gonna make words more gooder than before what I did. study

    Ok, good.

SO now you're a full-time student so you only have time to be an asshole part-time.

Shit, they really get you on the books. They said you could purchase e-textbooks for the courses at substantial discounts over the printed ones.

Still running me $60 a course.

Why am I writing novels? I should get into the textbook racket.

People ain't got no choice but to buy them, so you can go ahead and just charge *whatever*.

What is anybody gonna do about it? They're gonna PAY, that's what they're gonna do.

we had a chinese-owned photocopy center and students would copy entire books for a fraction of the cost.

like 20$ for copying the entire book instead of 80$ or something.

it's total robbery. 15 different fucking editions.

    and they ain't cheap.

and they HAVE to be fucking HARD COVER to be even more expensive.

Most of the schools I worked at over there, including unis, would just obtain a second hand copy of the text and send it off to the printers to get blue bound title-less copies for the students.

The last place I worked actually had the staff slaving over a hot crappy photocopier, making the copies for the students themselves. Rolling Eyes

I did this student orientation thing, and it's all based off this protagonist named "Shaniquia."

How am I supposed to put *myself* into the character of Shaniquia?

It's all like.... It's Shaniquia's first day on campus and she's a little overwhelmed.  So Shaniquia calls her advisor, who tells Shaniquia...

University just seems like entirely the wrong narrative context for "Shaniquia."

It should be something more like: "Shaniquia done gets money from da gubbermint but dat not be enough fo' her expensive weave.  An' Shaniquia be needing dat weave cuz she GOTZ to gets herself a new man since baby-daddy Jamal drank up all dat malt liquor and dun gotz hisself taked away by the po-po."
