    Road trip!

Post  Psioncy on Mon May 02, 2016 12:50 pm

Drove from central Florida to Maine in one long-ass haul.  Holy fuck am I exhausted.

(Somebody needed a car hauled up there and I needed free transportation.)

    Observations:

    1.  People drive a lot faster on the highways now than I remember.  Speed limits range from 65 to 70 MPH, but everyone does 80+.  I was doing about 83 most of the way but sometimes lost track and find myself over 90.  Perfectly normal now.

    2.  Rampant McDonaldization.  Want something other than fast food?  Well fuck you.  Even southern Maine towns are rife with chains stores sprouting up everywhere.

    3.  Drove by three mosques.  Where my country gone?

    4.  Maine kicks all kinds of ass.  As soon I entered Maine the radio on the music got awesome and everything just started kicking ridiculous amounts of ass.

    5.  There are NO TOLLS between Florida and DC on 95.  After that you literally get buttraped by them hourly.  Some are over $3.

    6.  Driving through New York is a fkn ordeal.  Tiny, curvy, hilly lanes and everyone driving like maniacs.

    7.  Do it at night.  You can go faster and be in no traffic.  I made the mistake of keeping going into daylight by the time I hit NYC.  Make you sure you time that shit for 3 am or something.

    8.  What I did would have been impossible without coffee and cigarettes.  Remember, you need fuel, not just the car.

    9.  GPS make things so much easier.  There is a whole generation of people driving now who don't know shit about which way they're going or what comes before and after what or even where they are.  But it doesn't matter, GPS gets them there.  Prediction:  20 years from now a massive solar flare is gonna wipe out the GPS satellites, turning the nation's highways into a clusterfuck of unprecedented retardation.  M'fkrs heading to Chicago are gonna end up in New Mexico or some shit.

What I'd like to do is make the roadtrip with some money.  I had finances for food and coffee, but I couldn't afford hotels and stuff.  I had money I would have done DC for a day and maybe New York -or just hit parks and campgrounds.  What I'd really like to do is drive out west and fuck around out there.  But I'm po' and travel is expensive.  Sad

Remember how I used to talk about coming back here, getting a camper, and living like a gypsy?

Well, scratch that noise.  Between the added fuel and campground fees you'd be better off staying at motels.

And gone are the days of $20 rooms.  It's like $65 minimum -if you're lucky enough find that at a Motel 6 or 8.

Fast food is way up too, as is coffee/tolls/fkn everything.

Speeding tickets are $250-300 along the East Coast, for any infraction. If it's a construction zone the fines double.

In a nutshell, this country sucks ass if you aren't rich.

I stopped at a McDonald's in this pristine little Stepford Wives township in southern Connect-a-cunt for breakfast.  All the staff was speaking Spanish.  I ordered an egg muffin with a medium black coffee.  The bitch couldn't understand me, so I said it again in my clearest ESL teacher diction "One Egg McMuffin and one medium black coffee."  She got all flustered and called her friend over to help her.  I mean seriously, how is this bitch even working the counter in a whitebread Connecticut town if she can't understand the MOST common terms of the menu being ordered in slow, clear Englais?   Rolling Eyes

    Where my country gone?

You're forced to own a car in the states.

Here at least you can survive without a car.

Yeah she doesn't speak much English, but it's precisely because she's in a posh neighborhood that no local there wants to do these menial jobs.

Who cares? You can just point to the fuckin' menu. That's what I've been doing for years.

Language is over-rated because most people can't carry a conversation anyway.

We should go back to pointing and grunting. And of course, body language with the ladies.

There's no picture menu on the counter to point at like there is Chinka.

I agree about the car.  That's the problem here.  You need car + insurance + fuel + repairs.  On top of that you have taxes up the wazoo from every direction, and high rates for things like dental care and utilities.  When you add it all up, it gets ridiculous and you find you're just working to afford your living.

So, yep, I much prefer to be somewhere where I don't need to own a car.  I could have a car and crappy job by now, but I chose to invest in my education and go back to Asia instead -a place I can actually save some money.

Here, people just don't see it.  They make X amount of dollars and think they're doing good, but frequently find themselves strapped because they consistently fail to grasp the full scope of their expenses.  It's because the system is so beauracratized and McDonaldized, they get anesthetized.

Did you see the recent Michael Moore film, where he goes to Europe?  Europeans are describing all their vacations and benefits, and employers are talking about how OF COURSE they give them all these things because their workers are human beings and need to live.  They're also quite shocked when Moore describes the labor laws and practices in the United States to them.  Really, give it watch.  It's super left wing, so you'll love it.  In fact, I agree with much of it myself.  I'm no socialist, however that doesn't mean that some level of it shouldn't exist.  At least in Canuckistan you have health care.  In America it's seriously go-fuck-yourself.

yeah, socialist countries have health care which benefits the poor.

but they tax people up the wazoo.

anyway being poor in any country is not good.

i'm in bad shape. i really need to figure out how to improve my finances.

and companies don't give a squat about human beings.

my boss contacted me yesterday and said i'm up for review and it's being debated whether to keep me on. they just love to make people disposable (or at least feel like they're disposable) in this country. everyone is always up for review and the standards are high, even though they love to maintain low standards themselves.

yeah, they have it all worked out. car bills, car insurance (and they make it impossible to get around without a car), mobile phone plans, internet, netflix. and by the end of it, unless you're making a fortune, you're barely paying your rent.

i got a phone here and my boss was eager to get me on the monthly plan of 70 rmb per month. fuck it. i stretch 100 rmb to 3 months with my phone.

when you're always threatened of losing your job, you gotta get frugal.

you don't have kids so you can move around. that's your greatest asset. just go wherever you can make the most decent salary and keep your expenses down. being able to move around and not being tied down gives you a big advantage.

that's why i don't expect to be out of work for very long as i can keep moving around when the shit hits the fan. and it usually does.

flip the finger to the system and keep your expenses down. get off the monthly phone bills, the netflix, the car payments. live close to work and live somewhere you don't need to drive.

Internet, electricity, hot-water, heat/AC, and privacy.  If you got those and it ain't raining on you, you're fine for the time being.

In China I put 50 kuai on my phone every three months or so, barely use it.  Here, I just don't bother.

Who am I gonna call?  Ghostbusters? Rolling Eyes

    Life sucks when you're broke.

    Let's face it.

You start getting embarassed to even put yourself out there in the dating scene.

I'm gonna have to sort this shit out or life is gonna be one long hell-ride.
