    The Lost Weekend - Movie

Been trying to find this for ages.

If there is one movie you should watch Sciency, it's this.

This and Wake in Fright, the two best movies solely about a drinking binge.

Not as good as Wake in Fright, but still very watchable, well written and acted.

How's it working?   I bought a bluetooth speaker and it totally f-ed up my system's audio, registering as two devices and messing up my ability to use a jacked headset and having to fuck with all kinds of windows settings to get things back to normal.

Not only that, but the volume was crappy.

My coworkers all use direct line headsets, and my company also recommends to everyone because they have so much experience with IT issues caused by them.

    I suppose it's all you're using, it's fine.

Any problems switching between speakers and headset?  Or BT headset to regular?

Yeah, that's about what I look like tonight after a torturous weekend of non-stop online teaching.  The only difference is my room isn't nearly so nice, more squalorly than anything.  That and I'm not using a glass, like some uppercrust douche-shot that does so just because he can afford it.   Rolling Eyes  The *bottle* is already made of glass, all right?

Also I don't own a glass.  Or a cup.  I do have a coffee cup I took from the hotel bar, but I don't feel like cleaning it.  My desk is a rickety nightstand with a worn out tiny worn out stool next to it for my router, supplies, phone, etc.  Etc being lighter and ashtray.  (Ashtray also taken from hotel bar.)

Touching that is my bed with three week old sheets all crumpled up, and the rest of my notes and work tools on the edge, those that won't fit on the tiny stool.  I also eat and drink in this area. I can't open my door with moving my chair to do so.

Yet.... I got praised for the cleanliness of workstation, because I have my background set just right against a nice painted area of the wall.  I'm always worried I'm gonna bump the nightstand and expose the squalor of the place in a class or meeting.

The bluetooth headset is amazing, love it, great sound.

But had to get a usb adaptor to use it, like 20 rmb or somethoing that pugs into laptop.

Oh sure, of course, to recharge.  I've got likedundant wall socket to usb and phone to usb/wall socket and flat prong electric to round.  I've got usb to usb and usb male to female.

I'm like a walking electronics store.  I *want* to be using a bluetooth headset but everyone cautions against it for my work.  If it's working for you without probs then cool.

Weirdly enough I have three microphone, on my wired headset, plus my professional mike, and another on my webcam.  I've taken to using the pinhole webcame mike, as it has good sound quality and cancels the background noise of my fan (which is directly behind it by mere inches) out.  Also my NUC rests on the back of the monitor by the huge standing fan, so I figure it good to have it blowing on all my electronics in the Bangkok heat.

    Headset or headphones?

I get confused with the terms.  I don't see a mike though.

Like "tethering" to change settings and stuff?

I tether everything I can.  My phone and my mobile router, rather than use wireless.  I get better speeds, and it reduces the risk of getting hacked.  Unfortunatley the NUC is tiny and only has four USB ports, one of which I use for my wireless keyboard/mouse.  (Ok those are wireless, but I seldom have problems.)  I've also got external microphone and a six meter tether to my wifi booster antenna on the other end of the room hanging out the window, so I gotta swap stuff out frequently.

Nice.  How long can it go between recharges?  I need something that will hold out at least 10 hours for my work.

I have a decent ear bud headset w/ mike for my work, and it's got great sound quality.  Don't bother with the mike though, like I said, since I got two others that work better.

Wireless would be awesome though.  I'd have to buy two for the sake of redundancy so I could switch them out in case I ran out of juice on the one I was operating with.

Nah.  I bet in HK I could get a good price too.

Here all I ever get is the "Round-Eye Special."

I visited my bud and his Thai wife and found out I was getting fucked on all kinds of purchases.

I *do* barter too, but they bottom out on the round-eye special price regardless.

That's fine.  I'm just buying anything here that I don't absolutely need.  Gotta watch luggage space/weight anyway to stay mobile.

I've actually managed to reduce it since I've been here, just on that principle.

Don't think it's easier here just because people speak English.  It's actually far more difficult because the locals are so incredibly unhelpful. They go out of their way to be like that.

The local flavor of Asian passive aggression I guess.

The only way they will be helpful is if they are helping you out of your money.

My friends Thai wife was nice.  He just tells her what he needs and she handles it for him.

So much easier than what I'm doing.

She said she was gonna hook me up with a GF.  The pics looked fantastic!  We'll see how it plays out.

I made it clear I wasn't spending *any* money on the bitch though.

Yep, that Thai wife makes things a *lot* easier.

Like him and I couldn't even get a waiter over cuz they don't give an F.  For like half an hour we were waiting on getting served.

Thai wife came back, and we found ourselves beveraged in moments.
